Why Does the Dumb Thing Persist? Five Minutes with Bjorn Westergard on Software Work
|Brad Fidler||Dec 14, 2020|
Here’s the last five minutes of my Fall 2020 Computers & Society at the Stevens Institute of Technology, an intro breadth course that I teach as an investigation into the homomorphic or isomorphic relationships between social and computer architecture (from Melvin Conway to Tara McPherson).
Here we are in discussion with Bjorn Westergard about unionism, automation, and software work. A student asked Bjorn what the dumbest thing he’s ever seen in software work, which led to this discussion about ideology and the workplace autonomy of computer scientists.
